The Wireless Planning and Coordination has announced a notable change in the approval process for Bluetooth devices. Certain categories of wireless equipment operating in license-exempt bands with low transmission power are now exempted from the import licensing requirement, aligning with the import policy of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This implies that manufacturers and importers of Bluetooth devices will no longer need to go through the WPC approval process for these specific products. Instead, the approval process for Bluetooth devices can be facilitated through a self-declaration for certain categories of wireless equipment. Importers or Authorized Indian Representatives (AIRs) can provide a self-declaration, which will be considered sufficient evidence to facilitate the clearance of such products by Customs and Central Excise Authorities.
