Medium-density particle boards are adaptable and reasonably priced engineered wood products that are extensively used for general-purpose applications in building, furniture production, and interior design. They are made of wood and other lignocellulosic components. Particle boards of a medium density are prized for their affordability, stability, and uniformity. They may be used for many different projects, from building cabinets and shelves to making interior wall panels and furniture parts, thanks to their consistent density and smooth surface. Their superior ability to firmly grasp screws, nails, and other fasteners makes them the go-to option for several woodworking applications.
For producers in the woodworking and construction sectors, the IS Standard IS 3087:2005 for medium-density particle boards manufactured from wood and other lignocellulosic materials, intended for general uses, is very important. The requirements for medium-density particleboards made of wood or other lignocellulosic materials that are intended for general use and have a specific gravity between 0.5 and 0.9 are covered by this standard. Particle boards have to adhere to certain quality standards and technical specifications as stated in IS 3087:2005. Producers that follow these guidelines may guarantee that their goods are consistently high-quality, which is necessary for consumer happiness and confidence.
Note: Obtaining the mandatory ISI Mark Certification is required of producers of medium-density particle boards manufactured from wood and other lignocellulosic materials for broad applications.
The ISI Certification is an obligatory step that guarantees that particle boards meet strict quality standards, safety requirements, and technological standards, which in turn improves the dependability and efficiency of the goods and buildings that use them. It gives furniture manufacturers, interior designers, architects, and construction experts peace of mind that the particle boards they use in their products are of the best caliber, guaranteeing the long-term structural integrity, visual appeal, and durability of their works.
Indian Standards Institute, or ISI was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in 1987. The official mark that the Bureau of Indian Standards provides for manufacturers of various goods is the ISI Mark. It is used to indicate compliance with Indian standards (IS) set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and has been used as a conformity marking for industrial products. Manufacturers received permission from BIS to use the ISI Mark on items that comply with relevant Indian requirements through the product certification program.
Only manufacturers (domestic or foreign) who produce the finished product will be awarded ISI Certification. This will not be given to any product importers, traders, dealers, or distributors.

There are two approaches for Indian manufacturers to become certified with the ISI Mark:
Regular Procedure
With the possible exception of cases deemed "All India first," which might take up to 180 days, the licensing procedure is expected to be finished in 120 days. This timeline starts on the day the application is received, assuming that at different points in time the documentation, unit assessment, and product conformance are all deemed acceptable.
Step 1: Manufacturing Unit Customization in Compliance with Applicable Indian Standards
Step 2: Submission of the Application Form

Simplified Procedure
This is a much faster process than the standard procedure. After a factory inspection is deemed satisfactory and the initial evaluation establishes that the sample complies with the applicable Indian Standard(s), the license application process is expected to be finished in 30 days.
Step 1: Adapting the Manufacturing Unit to Comply with the Relevant Indian Standard
Step 2: Sample Testing
