Introduction to the BIS QCO for Telescopic Ball Bearing Drawing Slide

1. The Order will be called Telescopic Ball Bearing Drawer Slide (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
2. Telescopic Ball Bearing Drawer Slides must conform to IS 17954:2023.
3. Mandatory use of the ISI Mark under a BIS licence is important to ensure legal sales as well as manufacturing.
4. BIS certification is a must to be obtained under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
5. Goods that are manufactured domestically for export purposes are exempt from the provisions of this Order.
6. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for ensuring legal compliance in the market, with respect to this Order.
7. Non-compliance will attract penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

What is the Date of Implementation?

The implementation timeline schedule under the Order is as follows:

1. General enterprises:
   Six months from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette
2. Small enterprises:
   Nine months from the date of publication
3. Micro enterprises:
   Twelve months from the date of publication

Manufacture or sale of non-certified drawer slides beyond the applicable timelines will be treated as a violation of the QCO. Therefore, it is important that businesses abide by the same in a timely manner.
