Miscellaneous Steel Products Quality Control Order Notification for Micro and Small Enterprises

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently introduced the "Miscellaneous Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," aimed at regulating and ensuring high-quality standards for Miscellaneous Steel Products in India. This Order, effective six months from its publication date in the Official Gazette, mandates strict adherence to specified Indian Standards for Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters. These standards include IS 15155:2020 for bar or wire-wrapped steel cylinder products pipes with mortar lining and coating including specials-specifications, IS 16651:2017 for high-strength deformed stainless steel bars and wires for concrete reinforcement, IS 6392:2020 for steel pipe flanges, and IS 6913:1973 for stainless steel tubes for the food and beverage industry. Manufacturers must affix the ISI Mark on products that meet these stringent quality benchmarks, demonstrating conformity with Bureau of Indian Standards requirements under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. However, this Order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export. For micro enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, the Order will come into force twelve months from the notification's publication date. For small enterprises, it will come into force nine months from the same date. Any person who contravenes the provisions of this Order will be punishable under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
