The Ministry of Textiles has recently issued the Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022, which notably extends the enforcement date for compliance with protective textiles standards to October 7, 2023. This amendment mandates that all manufacturers strictly adhere to the relevant Indian Standards, ensuring the quality and safety of protective textiles. The enforcement of these standards includes the requirement for products to prominently display the ISI Mark, signifying compliance. Furthermore, manufacturers are required to obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-I of Schedule-II, as stipulated by the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Non-compliance with these regulations will attract penalties as specified in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This regulatory update underscores the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in the protective textiles sector, ensuring consumer safety and industry reliability.
