Introduction to the BIS (Quality Control) Order, 2025 for Pumps

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has issued a draft notification regarding pumps.

This draft order will be called the Pumps (Quality Control) Order, 2025.

It is issued under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The Order shall come into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Key Changes of the QCO You Should Know

As per this draft QCO:

1. All specified pump products must comply with the relevant Indian Standards (IS). 

1. These products must bear the ISI Mark under a valid BIS license.
2. Certification will be granted under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
3. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will act as the certifying and enforcing authority.
4. Any person who violates this Order will be punishable under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
5. The latest version of the Indian Standards, including amendments issued by BIS from time to time, shall apply.

Exemptions to this QCO

This Order shall not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

What is the Date of Implementation?

The implementation timeline from the date of publication in the Official Gazette is:

• For general enterprises (other than micro and small enterprises): 6 months
• For small enterprises: 9 months
• For micro enterprises: 12 months

Manufacturers and importers must complete BIS certification within the applicable timeline to continue selling these products in India.
