Quality Control Order 2023 for Bottled Water Dispensers

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, introduced the Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2023, on October 23, 2023. This regulation, which comes into force six months after its publication in the Official Gazette, mandates that all bottled water dispensers must conform to the Indian Standard IS 17681: 2022 and display the ISI Mark. This mark must be obtained under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The order exempts goods manufactured domestically for export. Micro enterprises have a twelve-month compliance period from the publication date, while small enterprises have nine months to meet these standards. The BIS is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority, ensuring adherence to these regulations. Any violations of this order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This regulation aims to uphold high-quality standards for bottled water dispensers in India, ensuring the safety and reliability of these products.
