Drums and Tins Quality Control Order Notification for Micro and Small Enterprises

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued the "Drums and Tins (Quality Control) Order, 2023," aimed at regulating and ensuring high-quality standards for drums and tins used in various industries. This Order, which will come into force six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, mandates that specified goods or articles must conform to the corresponding Indian Standards and bear the ISI Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) according to Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Exceptions to this Order include goods or articles manufactured domestically for export and those filled with material in powder, semi-solid, or liquid form when imported into India. For micro enterprises, as defined in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, the Order will take effect twelve months from the notification's publication date, and for small enterprises, it will take effect nine months from the same date. The BIS is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for these products, and any contraventions of this Order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
