Introduction to the BIS QCO for Refined Zinc
The Refined Zinc (Quality Control) Order, 2025, was introduced to make BIS certification mandatory for all refined zinc produced, imported, or sold in India. Refined zinc is definitely an essential industrial metal that is used in several applications, mainly including galvanization, alloys, batteries, as well as several chemical applications, where purity and consistent composition are all the more important. The QCO was mandated to ensure that only high-quality zinc compliant with IS 209:2024 enters the Indian market.
However, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Ministry of Mines has recently issued an amendment to the Quality Control Order for refined zinc, which extends the date of implementation for the same.
Key Changes You Should Know

What is the Date of Implementation?
The original Refined Zinc QCO was published on 17th April, 2025.
