Introduction to the BIS Amendment Notification for Acetic Acid, Maleic Anhydride, and Pyridine

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), based in the Department of Consumer Affairs, updates the Indian Standards to incorporate new technological developments, safety concerns, and quality standards. • IS 695: 2020 - Acetic Acid - Specification (Fourth Revision)
• IS 2887: 2017 - Laundry Soap Powders/Flakes - Specification (Third Revision).
• IS 5149:2020 - Maleic Anhydride, Technical - Specification (Second Revision).
• IS 8058:2018 - Pyridine - Specification (First Revision)
• IS 8637 2020 - H Acid - Specification (Second Revision)

Manufacturers, importers, and BIS license holders who deal with the above chemicals and consumer products are affected by these amendments.

Key Provisions of the Notification

1. Amendments to the listed Indian Standards have been officially made by BIS.
2. There is a transition period that has been given to allow the manufacturers to keep pace with new specifications.
3. Products that meet the unamended standards can only be produced or supplied until the validity date mentioned.
4. The adherence to the amended standard will be obligatory after the lapse of the period of transition.
