Introduction to the Notification for Gypsum Plaster Boards
Gypsum plaster boards are regulated in India under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) framework, administered by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Coated as well as laminated gypsum plaster boards are extensively used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction due to their structural stability, fire resistance, and surface finish. In order to ensure these products continue to meet evolving construction as well as safety requirements, the applicable Indian Standards are periodically reviewed and updated by the Government.
Key Changes You Should Know?
On 14 May 2024, the Ministry issued a Corrigendum, which basically revised the applicable Indian Standard for Coated/Laminated Gypsum Plaster Boards. As per the notification:
- The applicable standard has been revised to IS 2095 (Part 2):2022.
- This revised standard replaces the earlier referenced specification for coated/laminated gypsum plaster boards.
- The updated standard has been formally published in the Gazette of India.
- The revision incorporates updated technical specifications, performance criteria, and varied quality requirements.
Why This Revision Matters?
The revision ensures that coated and laminated gypsum plaster boards are available in the Indian market, and thereby adhere to the following:
- Comply with current quality, safety, as well as performance norms.
- Deliver enhanced durability, consistency, and reliability in construction use.
- Reflect modern manufacturing practices as well as material advancements.
- Support smoother regulatory compliance and procurement acceptance in the Indian market.
Manufacturers, importers, and suppliers must ensure conformity with IS 2095 (Part 2):2022 wherever this standard is applicable.
What is the date of Implementation?
This notification Order is effective from its official publication in the gazette. Manufacturers as well as importers dealing with these products must keep track of related activities and the BIS guidelines.
