Quality Control Order 2023 for Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable (Quality Control) Order, 2023, aimed at ensuring stringent quality standards for these cables nationwide. Scheduled to be effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette, this Order mandates that Solar DC Cables and Fire Survival Cables comply with specific Indian Standards. Solar DC Cables must adhere to IS 17293:2020, which pertains to Electric Cable for Photovoltaic Systems rated at 1500 V DC. Fire Survival Cables must meet IS 17505 (Part 1):2021, addressing Thermosetting Insulated, Fire Survival Cables with working voltages up to and including 1100 V AC and 1500 V DC. Products meeting these standards are required to prominently display the ISI Mark, indicating conformity with Bureau of Indian Standards requirements under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This Order includes provisions exempting domestically manufactured goods intended solely for export. The Bureau of Indian Standards assumes the role of certifying and enforcing authority for Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable under this mandate. Non-compliance with the provisions of this Order may lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. By introducing these measures, the government aims to uphold high-quality standards in Solar DC Cable and Fire Survival Cable production, ensuring consumer safety and enhancing confidence in these essential electrical products.
