Quality Control Order 2023 for Door Fittings

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, introduced the Door Fittings (Quality Control) Order, 2023, on October 23, 2023. This regulation, established under the authority granted by Section 16 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, is deemed essential for the public interest. It mandates that specific goods, as detailed in the order, must conform to the corresponding Indian Standards and bear the Standard Mark. This mark must be obtained under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 outlined in Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The order exempts goods manufactured domestically for export. For micro-enterprises, a compliance period of twelve months from the publication date is provided, while small enterprises have nine months to adhere to these regulations. The BIS is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority, ensuring that all door fittings, particularly Rim Latches, meet the prescribed standards. Any violations of this order are punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This regulation aims to maintain high-quality standards for door fittings in India, ensuring product safety and reliability.
