Quality Control Amendment Order 2023 for Polyester Staple Fibres

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has recently introduced the Polyester Staple Fibres (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2023, which is set to take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette. This amendment imposes stringent requirements on the manufacturing and trading of Polyester Staple Fibres in India, mandating adherence to specified Indian Standard criteria and the prominent display of the ISI mark. Compliance necessitates that manufacturers obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The amendment also strictly prohibits the production, trading, stocking, or importation of Polyester Staple fibre without the ISI mark, with penalties for non-compliance detailed in the relevant legislation. It is important to note that this Order does not apply to Low Melt Polyester Fibres. This regulatory measure aims to ensure high quality and consistency in Polyester Staple Fibres available in the market, enhancing consumer protection and fortifying the industry's credibility.
