Introduction to the BIS Quality Control Amendment Order, 2026

There has been a new Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026, issued by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. This amendment has been issued under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The amendment provides an extension in the enforcement timeline for certain Indian Standards (IS) covered under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

Key Changes of the QCO You Should Know

As per this Amendment Order, the following are the new changes :

1. The implementation of the Indian Standards (IS) listed at Serial Numbers 23 and 129 of Schedule-I has been postponed for three years from the date of publication of this amendment.
2. The implementation of the Indian Standards (IS) listed at Serial Numbers 51, 52, and 53 of Schedule-I has been extended up to 31st March 2027.

What is the Date of Implementation?

The latest Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2026.shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, i.e., 20 June 2026.
