New BIS (Amendment) Order 2025 on Polypropylene (PP) Materials used in Moulding and Extrusion

Introduction to the BIS QCO on PP Materials 

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals) has recently issued a new amendment to the earlier Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

As per the original order dated 26 February 2024, BIS certification for Polypropylene (PP) materials that were being used in moulding and extrusion was scheduled to become mandatory from 24 June 2025.

Now, through the Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, the government has extended the implementation timeline.

Key Changes You Should Know

1. The new amended order will be called Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025.
2. The major change is in the enforcement date.
3. BIS certification will now become mandatory from 24 October 2025 instead of June 2025.
4. The order has already been published in the Official Gazette and is effective from the date of publication.

What is the Date of Implementation?

• Amendment Order issued on: 23 June 2025
• New enforcement date for mandatory BIS compliance: 24 October 2025

From this date onwards, Polypropylene (PP) materials for moulding and extrusion must comply with BIS standards before being sold in India.

• Check whether your product falls under the Quality Control Order.
• Start the BIS certification process immediately if not already done.
• Ensure your testing is conducted as per applicable Indian Standards.
