Quality Control Order 2023 for Copper

The Ministry of Mines has issued the Copper (Quality Control) Order, 2023, aimed at ensuring stringent quality standards for Copper throughout India. This regulatory measure will come into effect three months from its publication in the Official Gazette. According to the Order, Copper products must comply with the Indian Standard IS 191:2007. Products meeting these standards are required to prominently display the ISI Mark, indicating conformity with the Bureau of Indian Standards requirements under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This order provides an exemption for domestically manufactured Nickel powder intended exclusively for export. The Bureau of Indian Standards is tasked with certifying and enforcing compliance with these quality standards. Non-compliance with the Order's provisions may result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, highlighting the government's dedication to upholding quality norms and protecting consumer interests in the Copper industry.
