Electric Ceiling Type Fans Quality Control Order Notification for Micro and Small Enterprises

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued the "Electric Ceiling Type Fans (Quality Control) Order, 2023," which will take effect six months from its publication date. This regulatory measure mandates adherence to Indian Standard IS 374:2019 for Electric Ceiling Type Fans, ensuring they bear the Standard Mark and meet specified quality benchmarks. Manufacturers are required to obtain a license under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. This order accommodates Micro and Small Enterprises, defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, with different compliance timelines: Small Enterprises must comply within nine months from the date of publication, while Micro Enterprises have twelve months. Enterprises registered under the "Udyam portal" of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and meet specified financial criteria are exempted, provided the goods are intended for domestic consumption and not for export. The initiative aims to bolster consumer safety by enforcing stringent quality standards, thereby enhancing the overall quality and reliability of Electric Ceiling Type Fans available in the market. Non-compliance with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring industry adherence to established norms and safeguarding consumer interests.
