Introduction to the BIS QCO for n-Butyl Acrylate
The original n-Butyl Acrylate (Quality Control) Order, 2021 was issued by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers on 24th December 2021. This order brought n-Butyl Acrylate under mandatory BIS certification in India in order to ensure quality as well as rigorous safety standards.
n-Butyl Acrylate is widely used in the production of paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and textiles, making it an important chemical for multiple industries.
Under this Order, n-Butyl Acrylate was required to conform to the applicable Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license. This ensured that only certified and quality-compliant material could be manufactured, imported, or sold in the Indian market.
However, due to recent global supply challenges, the government has now introduced a temporary amendment in order to ease availability concerns for n-butyl acrylate.
Key Changes You Should Know
- The government has introduced a temporary suspension of the QCO requirements for n-butyl acrylate.
- Compliance with the Indian Standard and BIS certification is not mandatory during the specified period.
- This step has been taken to avoid supply chain disruptions and ensure smooth availability of n-Butyl Acrylate.
Note: After the specified period, all provisions of the original 2021 Order will again become applicable.
What is the Date of Implementation?
- Original QCO Issued: 24 December 2021
- Amendment Order Issued: 10 April 2026
- Relaxation Period: 10 April 2026 to 10 July 2026
During this time, BIS compliance for n-Butyl Acrylate is temporarily not required.
Benefits of this Order for the Industry
This amendment provides immediate relief to businesses that are dealing with n-Butyl Acrylate in the Indian market. Here are some prominent benefits brought forward with this recent amendment:
- The new order ensures an uninterrupted supply in the market.
- It helps industries avoid production slowdowns.
- This also reduces short-term compliance pressure.
- It supports manufacturers as well as importers in managing global sourcing challenges.
Now, What to Do?
