Parallel Testing Guidelines started first as a pilot program with mobile phones in December 2022, and was extended to wireless earphones, headphones, and laptops. BIS has now turned this pilot scheme into a permanent scheme, with all the products covered by the scheme, after stakeholder consultation and regulatory assent, have been notified under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021.
Parallel Testing Scheme applies to all of the electronic and IT products that are notified in the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. Components and final products that need registration under CRS under BIS can both be tested in parallel.
This notification offers the manufacturers an option of testing the components and finished products more flexibly and quickly, as more components can be tested at the same time. Nevertheless, companies cannot get away with risks like failure of the test or rejection at subsequent stages. Products are marketable only after a successful registration of BIS, and manufacturers should remember to provide valid registration numbers to all the components used, where necessary.
This notification takes effect on 09 January 2024, and manufacturers are allowed to start generating parallel testing requests on the same date of issue.
Manufacturers who choose parallel testing under CRS are supposed to make sure that they:
