Introduction to the Instructions for Manufacturers & Permittees of 4K TVs

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) mainly implements the Standards & Labelling (S&L) program in order to ensure that electrical appliances sold in India meet defined energy efficiency levels.
Ultra-High Definition (UHD) / 4K Televisions are covered under this program and must carry a valid BEE Star Label in order to be sold in the Indian market.

To further provide clarity as well as long-term stability for manufacturers, BEE has issued updated instructions regarding the validity of the star rating table and continuation of existing approved models.

Key Changes You Should Know

BEE has recently announced the following key updates for UHD / 4K TVs:

1. The current star rating table has been extended till 31 December 2027.
2. The revised sample label is valid from 1 July 2023 to 31 December 2027.
3. Manufacturers and permittees who want to continue their already approved models beyond 31 December 2024 must:
   1. Upload the previous approval letter
   2. Upload the revised sample label on the BEE portal
4. If the continuation request is not submitted on time, the models will be automatically deactivated.

What Is the Date of Implementation?

• The instructions are effective immediately.
• The portal for continuation applications went live on 1 August 2024 at 3:00 PM.
• Last date to apply for continuation: 31 December 2024.
• Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

UHD / 4K TV manufacturers and permittees should take the following steps:

• Review all registered UHD / 4K TV models on the BEE portal.
• Identify models that need to be continued beyond 31 December 2024.
• Upload the earlier approval letter as well as the revised sample label for each model.
• Submit the continuation request well before the deadline.
• Ensure timely submission in order to avoid automatic deactivation of models.
