Introduction to the Instructions for RAC Manufacturers & Permittees

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) mainly regulates energy efficiency standards for Room Air Conditioners (RACs), which are under the mandatory star labelling program.
This program ensures that RACs sold in India meet defined energy performance levels as well as display valid BEE star labels in order to help consumers make informed choices.

For providing continuity and clarity, BEE has issued fresh instructions regarding the validity of the existing star rating table and continuation of approved models.

Key Changes You Should Know

BEE has announced the following important updates through this official notification:

• The current star rating table for RACs has been extended till 31 December 2025.
• The revised sample label will remain valid from 1 July 2022 to 31 December 2025.
• Manufacturers who want to continue their existing BEE-approved models beyond 31 December 2024 must:
  • Upload the previous BEE approval letter
  • Upload the revised sample label
• Registered manufacturers as well as permittees must submit the prescribed proforma in order to confirm their intention to continue under BEE
• If no continuation request is submitted, the models will be automatically deactivated.

What Is the Date of Implementation?

• The extension is official with immediate effect.
• The portal for continuation applications went live on 1 August 2024 at 3:00 PM.
• Last date to apply for continuation: 31 December 2024.
• No applications will be accepted after this date

Now, What to Do?

Manufacturers as well as permittees of Room Air Conditioners should act without any further delay:

• Review all currently approved RAC models on the BEE portal.
• Decide whether each model needs to be continued beyond 31 December 2024.
• Upload the previous approval letter as well as the revised sample label for each model.
• Submit the required proforma confirming continuation with BEE.
• Complete the process before 31 December 2024 in order to avoid auto-deactivation.

Timely action is definitely critical, as models without approved continuation requests will be removed automatically from the BEE system.
