BIS / CRS is mandatory for

Plasma / LCD / Smart TV / LED Television of Screen Size upto 32 inches

IS Standard : IS 616 : 2010

Tiny gas pockets are used in plasma televisions, and when an electric charge is given, they become plasma. The ultraviolet (UV) rays produced by these charges interact with the mercury in the plasma and then flow through phosphor cells to produce an image. The three phosphor cells that make up each pixel on the TV screen are red, green, and blue. The entire colour spectrum is made up of these hues combined. Interestingly, every pixel in a plasma TV independently emits light; it does not depend on a backlight. Among the first huge flat-screen TVs that the general public could purchase were plasma models, especially the 32-inch diagonal models.

LED TVs, or Light Emitting Diode TVs, on the other hand, are distinguished from LCD TVs by their higher efficiency and lower power usage. Energy-saving ability, which can cut power consumption by up to 30%, is one of its noteworthy benefits. They also offer flexibility in thickness and size and are reasonably priced. With screen sizes up to 32 inches, plasma, LCD, Smart TV, and LED televisions are popular options for compact living areas, bedrooms, kitchens, and workplaces.

Televisions with screens up to 32 inches are now covered by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)'s Compulsory Registration Scheme under IS 616: 2010.

Before being marketed or imported into the Indian market, BIS requires that certain televisions go through an online BIS Registration process. The ability to manufacture, import, store, market, or distribute plasma, LCD, or LED televisions within India is granted by BIS Registration. With TVs being a common fixture in homes, this addition in the Compulsory Registration Scheme aims to protect public health.
